On this day in 1844 Samuel Morse sent the first telegraphed message between cities via his patented single-wire telegraph system. He telegraphed a message from the Bible, which was chosen by the Patent Commissioner's daughter: "What hath God wrought?" The message was transmitted from Washington, D.C. to Baltimore, Maryland.
